A purple hyacinth represents a deep feeling of sadness and a plea for forgiveness. According to legend, the hyacinth flower is Hyakinthos, a Greek youth that both Apollo and Zephyr loved. Zephyr found that Hyacinth loved Apollo more and took revenge.
During a game of discus between Apollo and Hyacinth, the discus was thrown by one of them and Zephyr willed a strong wind to blow the discus toward Hyacinth hitting him in the head and killing him. While Apollo cried over the hyacinth that arose from Hyacinth's blood, his tears turned the petals of the flower purple.
The purple hyacinth represents the sorrow and grief that Apollo felt, and the plea for forgiveness from Zephyr as he felt deep sorrow for having killed Hyacinth.
