Description
The first Nobska Point lighthouse was built in 1828 and cost $2,249, it was a Cape Cod style structure with an octagonal lantern on top of the keeper's house. The lighthouse was rebuilt in 1876, with a 40-foot cast-iron tower lined with brick, and a fifth-order Fresnel lens. In 1910, a new brick fog signal building was built, and incorporated a fog whistle operated by compressed air. The keepers would start the signal when visibility was below five miles.
In 1985 the lighthouse was automated and the Coast Guard and keepers were no longer needed.
